IMPORTANT: if you learned about BQP Partners outside of AngelList -- e.g. via a blog or referral -- please note this in your application.

Join BQP Partners to invest in quantum computing and AI with a leader of the field, Scott Aaronson. Scott helped develop the concept of quantum supremacy, and established many of the theoretical foundations of the quantum supremacy experiments that have led to billions of dollars of investment into QC companies. While working on AI alignment at OpenAI (2022-2024), he invented watermarking in LLM outputs, deployed widely in 2026.

The timeline to fault-tolerant quantum computation has compressed from decades to years, and many of the most exciting developments are coming from startups. Quantum computers, as soon as 2029, may be able to break much of the encryption protecting the internet and cryptocurrencies (including Bitcoin), and enable discoveries in chemistry, materials, drug design, batteries, solar cells, nuclear physics, and more.

At the same time, many companies today make over-hyped claims, which Scott has been challenging publicly since 2007. Even most deep-tech VCs don't truly understand this space, and are vulnerable to the hype.

I’m Scott’s brother David Aaronson, and I manage BQP Partners and have invested in hundreds of startups. I wrote the first check into Tradepost, a year before Andreessen Horowitz led their seed round at a much higher valuation.

Scott and I are investing our own money in BQP Partners’ strategy. In July 2026, we invested in Oratomic, which is racing to build a fault-tolerant quantum computer, employing some of the top researchers in the field; Khosla Ventures co-invested its largest initial check ever. Despite the round being heavily oversubscribed, the founders wanted us on the cap table. We hope you’ll join us in future investments like this through BQP Partners.

BQP Partners maintains unique edges:

Diligence – Scott can separate progress from hype like few people in the world (and has helped multiple Tier 1 VCs with diligence)
Access – The best QC and AI companies want Scott as an investor and advisor
Network – Scott has been in quantum computing for 27+ years, was recruited into OpenAI by Ilya Sutskever, and writes one of the most popular blogs in computer science

BQP Partners will primarily invest in companies in these categories:

Quantum computing hardware and software
Transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC)
AI, including AI safety, AI for science, and formal verification
