Note from Susan Su
I am a professional investor who backs early stage technology companies building solutions to climate change. I'm currently a partner at Toba Capital, and was previously Head of Growth at Sound Ventures, Ashton Kutcher's VC fund. I'm an operator at heart (ex Stripe, Reforge, Google) — founders are my hero.
This syndicate features a very small selection of high fidelity deals that I am personally investing in where I've secured an allocation to share with others.
My investing
I am currently a climate-focused investment partner at Toba, where I've led our investments in David Energy’s series A, Euclid’s seed round, Bedrock’s seed round, Ecosafi’s seed round and many more spanning software, hardware, and deep tech. I've also led our commitments to supporting several new managers in climate tech as LPs.
I've also made over a dozen personal investments over the years, with follow-on and coinvestors including General Catalyst, Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, Valor Equity Partners, Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund and others, with markups to date ranging from 3.5X - 13X.
My personal deals have focused on companies where I can add disproportionate advisory value, and have spanned emerging and mature markets around the globe.
They include:
- Graviti, financing high efficiency appliances for the underbanked in Mexico. General Catalyst subsequently led the seed in this emerging markets company at a 13X multiple to my participation.
- Beacons, business management platform for creators. Andreessen Horowitz subsequently led the seed and Kora Capital led the A, at a 12X multiple to my participation.
- Butter, motion graphics for marketers. Valor Equity Partners subsequently led the seed at a 2X multiple to my participation.
- The Cool Down, a climate and sustainability media company. Upfront Ventures led the round I participated in.
My other work
In addition to my work as an investor, I was the first hire and Head of Growth and Marketing at Reforge, led and served on the startup marketing team at Stripe, launched international products at Google, and coached founders as part of 500 Global's growth team. I have coached and advised teams on marketing and growth at Nike, Mozilla, and countless VC backed startups.
I am currently a Board Member at the Carbon Business Council, a nonprofit trade association for carbon removal organizations, and a Board Advisor to The Environmental Voter Project, a nonprofit that uses data science to identify and turn out voters who care about climate change.
