The South graduates world-class educated entrepreneurs, but there is a shortage of early stage and value-add venture capital for these entrepreneurs.
We are alumni from some of the top schools in the South, and we wanted to make angel-stage investments in entrepreneurs that also belong to top alumni networks from the South.
However, when we took a look at university angel funds and other angel funds in the South, we were concerned about their strategies - they were often missing great investment opportunities by limiting their investing to a single alumni network or to a narrowly defined location, they were trying to be experts in too many different technology markets, and they were not accessing a broader base of connections to help their portfolio companies.
Southern Connection Ventures has a different investment strategy.
