As an entrepreneur, advisor and angel investor in the Boston startup ecosystem for the past 15+ years -- who graduated from MIT (engineering) and Harvard (business school) -- I am deeply connected in this community and have access to some of the best deals in town.
My tech interests are broad and include digital platforms & marketplaces, robotics & AI, ecommerce & last mile delivery, and smart devices & IoT.
My central investment theme is the application of AI and robotic automation to solving problems in the physical world. While AI is already being deployed in virtual, pure software platforms, the biggest challenges ahead are in improving our lives in the real world -- whether it's making transportation safer, same-day ecommerce deliveries a reality, healthy food more convenient, or our atmosphere sustainable.
Accordingly, the investment opportunities that I share with you often lie at the intersection of software and hardware. Software startups have developed the best models for tech development, customer discovery, product <> market fit, and for capital-efficient growth. Yet the hardest problems in our world require hardware solutions. Building those solutions require the best hardware experts, whether we're talking roboticists, supply chain gurus, or smart device / IoT engineers. But deploying those solutions scalably and building those companies in a capital-efficient manner require bringing the lessons learned from software startups. That's where my experience across these two domains can help these startups succeed.
I hope you join me in this quest to support these startups to make a positive impact on our world, while hopefully also making a positive impact on our portfolios.
My angel investments are an extension of my work advising founders on how to launch and grow their ventures. I will select amongst the startups I work with, ones where I believe in their potential to become at least a $100M business, with manageable risks, and where I believe I can add significant value longer term.
I will then syndicate these deals for two reasons: (1) to become an important portion of the financing and have more influence in the startup's future direction, and (2) to contribute to the startup by assembling a smart-money syndicate of angel investors / entrepreneurs / tech execs with deep experience in the startup's industry, technology or customer base.
Once invested in one of my syndicates, I will keep investors updated on the development of the startup and our investment, and I will offer you opportunities - completely optional - to meet the founders and fellow investors, so you can get as involved as you like in helping the startup reach their objectives.
I will also pre-negotiate with the founders your ability (but not requirement) to re-up in future rounds, either with a similar-sized five-figure check via our syndicate, or if you want to go big with a larger six-figure check, to invest directly into the startup.
I look forward to co-investing with you!
