I am a founder/operator with two personal / founder exits, including a 9-figure ad tech exit and multiple successful individual and AngelList investment exits. I am very selective about bringing deals to AngelList: I only bring forward companies where I have spent considerable time getting to know the founders and strongly believe in the business, product, and team. San Diego is underserved by the angel and venture communities despite the thriving startup and university community, creating an arbitrage opportunity.
I previously syndicated Fabric8Labs' seed round, and the company has since made excellent progress and recently raised its Series A in a significant up-round.
I invest and syndicate only companies where I understand and believe in the product, where I see huge potential, and that have kick-ass teams. For many of these, I will have served on the incubator due diligence team through a rigorous and highly competitive selection process, and I will have mentored the founder(s) for an extended period. This experience with the team provides me with in-depth access and the critical perspectives of multiple industry veterans. I only invest in the very best and only when I deem the time is right.
I regularly get to know promising startups through volunteer mentoring at San Diego area incubators and my personal networking in San Diego's startup ecosystem and through my long tech career.
I expect to syndicate all deals in which I participate and can get an adequate allocation.
Because I syndicate deals based on significant history with the founders and several other criteria (noted in my intro and FAQ to founders), my deal flow is generally low but of very high quality.
