I invest periodically in founders I've known for some time, or where I think my skills/background/network can have outsized leverage on the company's chance of success. I'm often first capital in, aiming to help fill out seed/pre-seed rounds with co-investors who can add value in a given target market/vertical. Not focused on specific industries/sectors, though history shows mainly biotech, crypto (probably equity vs. tokens).
The New Zealand expatriate network is a strong source of dealflow - Kiwis have hustle like none-other, and those who go all-in to move to their new market represent a unique opportunity. Look to Xero, LanzaTech, Allbirds, Vend, PredictHQ and more for examples. I'm also deep in the tech scene in London, and have a strong relationship base across the US that occasionally spins up a gem.
