I have decided to raise a general-purpose YC fund rather than the cohort-focused YC fund I raised before. There are two reasons:
- Cohort-focused funds create pressure on GP to deploy the fund within a certain period, and this may impact decision-making
- Given the limited time, it also creates pressure on LPs to fund the commitment in a short period
With this fund, which will only invest in YC companies, we can address the above two concerns.
The fund aims to raise $2M and deploy the fund over 50-70 companies across YC cohorts.
As far as my track record is concerned, I have been an investor in YC companies for some time now, and a few of my most successful investments (150x+ multiple after dilution) have been YC companies. In my portfolio, I have 25+ YC companies that are considered among the top YC companies of all time.
I regularly get referred deals from founders of my YC portfolio companies. Also, YC founders mentioned that according to their internal app, I am rated as one of the top investors by the founders. This helps me to get access to sought-after YC deals.
