Founders flock to us because our track recording of partnering with companies to provide early stage capital when they need it most and support for raising future rounds of capital, specialized coaching on how to build high growth technology businesses the right way and a strong community of angel investors, venture capital, advisors and talented professionals who support our companies as they grow.
Ultimately, we do not just do this because we are good at making great returns for you, we do what we do because of our desire to partner with companies leveraging the miracle of technology and innovation to build out of Africa’s deeply unsettling challenges global businesses that deliver a more equitable future where prosperity and purpose is within everyone’s reach.
We have several sources of deal flow as a well-regarded angel fund focused on funding African early-stage startups. Our founders' success in building two of the continents most successful startups, Andela and Flutterwave and funding several others contributes to our large amount of deal flow. In the last few months since we began actively receiving applications, we have received 250 applications for funding from innovators. We also get invited into new deals by other global investors looking for our expertise and guidance in navigating local African markets, especially in West Africa. Over the years, our network of global investors and accelerators including YCombinator, Techstars, Local Globe and Village Global amongst others rely on us to help them conduct additional due diligence on companies they are looking to invest in and this constitutes a source of deal flow for us. Finally, because we play such an active role in our portfolio companies our network extends to the alumni of these companies - especially the early employees who experience the level of support we provide to portfolio companies at those critical early stages and trust us to guide them along the right path.
We do not syndicate all our deals. Every year, our core fund - The Fund for Africa Future I LP funds up to 20 deals with $50K per company. These funds go to businesses at the very earliest stages where we then double down to help them navigate key early employees and customers while we prepare them for the next fundraise. We will selectively present the most promising deals from each batch on this platform with the hopes of helping you participate in our share of pro-rata funding in these companies.
