Sherman is a native Bay Area resident who decided in 2014 to explore what smart people were building around the world outside of the US. Prior to moving to Asia, he thought startups could only be big in the Bay. Now, he is the bridge between Asia and the western world. Over the past decade, he has met tons of deep tech founders through his work as co-founder of Raven Protocol (speedy decentralized and distributed ML training) and his role as an editor at Good Audience's tech publication: The Rising Stars of Deep Tech. He was also previously a partner at Zeroth.ai, a top Hong Kong-based deep tech accelerator. Many of our deals come from his network. Previous investments of his include SpaceX, Arweave (invested in a round prior to a16z), Ocean Protocol ($25M+ raised), and more.

Many of our deals also come from work we’ve done with existing founders we’ve invested in (either at Deep Ventures or through Sherman’s previous investments). We stay updated with what peers in our portfolio companies’ networks are working on too, and we won’t hesitate to do warm or cold outreach when we hear of a particularly compelling team or idea.
